Why I Read

Hey, guys. I’m back, and I’m ready to begin this blog again with my whole heart. If you’re new to my blog, welcome. If you’ve read my posts before, then, welcome back. Here on my blog, DaiDreamer, I talk about media of all kinds in hopes of making this world easier to navigate for today’s tweenagers!

Today, I thought it was a good idea for me to share with you why I read and why it is something I think is so important to me to have books for certain times in our lives.

  1. to meet people like me. Everyone desires to see part of themselves in the books that they read. Whether it be a depiction of one’s racial identity, a picture of grief, or the hopelessness of a child that seems to be unattainable to adults, books can show us pieces of our lives and glimpses into others.

  2. to write. As a fiction writer, I like to read both fiction and nonfiction to inspire myself. In my stories, though the events take place in an imaginary land I created when I was some seven years old with my sister Kayden, I take my inspiration from real events, real people, and real places. Though I might change genres later in life, right now, I write with fervency and empathy.

  3. To hear stories about what might have been or what has happened in the past. I love historical fiction! Through well-researched narratives, you can be carried back in time and yet see that the same problems we face today have been around forever, as well as the joys. On the other hand, by reading nonfiction accounts of history, we can get an even better grasp on the events of the past. Biographies and autobiographies can really help you along as well.

  4. to find the good and lovely things in the world. A lot of books glorify darkness. I’ve seen a great rise in books about witchcraft and other evil things, and a large drop in the amount of empathy building books published for middle grades. The books that are not being published right now are the books that today’s generation has been deprived of late. This is why I started DaiDreamer in the first place, to help you guys to boldly stand firm to your beliefs. Which brings me to my last point:

  5. to help other people find great books. Both Kayden and my mom say that I know how to find good, eye-opening books. (They also say I’m a picky reader when I’m in the middle of a book drought, but that’s beside the point.) If I could, I would keep all of you from reading any bad book in the world, but whether or not a book is bad is relative (unless it’s Judy Blume) to one’s own opinion. Just remember, though, I am going to try to tell you about the books that sit in the circle of right and lovely.

I am really grateful that you spent your valuable time reading my blog post. I know you probably have lots of important things that need doing, but you used that time to listen to my own thoughts. I pray that you would be rewarded for that with someone listening to your thoughts. God loves you; remember to show His love to other people.

‘K, bye!
