Dear girls,

I know what it’s like to look in the mirror and be ashamed of what you see. I used to think I was kind of chubby. Even now, I’m a tall, broad-shouldered girl. But I’ve learned that on the outside you can look any kind of way. You can be any shape, any size, and still be healthy. You can think well of yourself, get a clear bill of health, have a positive outlook on life because of your relationship with God, and still be a little large.

The standard of beauty you see on TV and social media, is hideous. Do you know what girls go through to be the perfect size, keep the perfect hairstyle, and live in a way that makes them look happy? What they really need is God, and peace, and real joy, but they don’t have it. Even if they look beautiful on screen, at home, a lot of times, their brokenness surfaces and they immediately search for another like, another follow, another chance to receive attention.

Don’t be like them. The only way to be beautiful and confident is to accept what God says about you. You are fearfully and wonderfully made. Here you can read all the translations of that well-known verse. Accept it in all translations. It’s a truthful and memorable reminder of the love God has for us– and has had for us– from the womb.

Next time someone calls you fat, ugly, dorky, or anything that hurts, tell them, “No, I’m remarkable.” Next time you see someone pretty on your phone, remember that you don’t need to hear from someone else that you are beautiful. A lot of them do. Spend your time praying for those women and girls. Be inspired by people who walk in their Christ-given identity.

Just in case no one has told you, you are beautiful, inside and out. Now that you know, walk in it.
