On December 29, 2023, I was in my room listening to the K-Love while sitting on my bed doing a crossword puzzle. I had tuned in to hear Katy Nicole’s new song, “My God Can”. (Katy Nicole is one of my favorite artists, after all. She has such a powerful testimony and music.) I had just finished cleaning out the fridge, which is one of my (least favorite) chores, so it was great to have something to look forward to.

Eleven ‘o clock (A.M) hit and Katy announced and gave an introduction for her new song. Then, the new song began to play. Don’t get me wrong. I love Katy Nicole, but when halfway through the song, another (completely unexpected voice) joined in, I stopped short and listened very hard. I convinced myself that I did not really recognize the voice. Then I realized that really did recognize the voice. I jumped to my feet and scribbled out a note on one of the pink sticky notes on my dresser.

“God, You really know me! You did this! My two favorite artists collaborated!” I wrote excitedly. And when one of the hosts of K-LOVE came on after the song, she confirmed my excitement. “That was Katy Nicole featuring Naomi Raine.” Only my God can. Only my God can.

You see, just this morning, as I was cleaning out the fridge, I was thinking about my favorite artists. ‘Y’know,’ I thought (either quietly aloud or in my head) ‘I think Katy Nicole and Naomi Raine are my favorite artists. Twenty, thirty minutes later, a collab done by both of them would enter my ears. Only my God can.

God doesn’t just let random things happen to us in our lives. Not even a flower can bloom without God allowing it to, let alone a song come on in our lives without it being ordained by Him. “Chance is God’s way of showing up without making an announcement.” as said Boaz in Tessa Asfhar’s book, In the Field of Grace. I have seen many events that just amaze me and excite me and boggle me and scare me, but none of them were mistakes or chance happenings. They were all God-ordained and have an ultimate purpose.

I hope you can trust today that whether you are waiting for a changed perspective, a changed family dynamic, a changed friendship, a love life, a new dog, or simply renewed hope, just continue to be yourself and look around for what God might be showing you through the small things.

Until next time.

Keep on dreaming.
